Screening Room: Emma Watson to Play Beauty, but She Still Needs a Beast

(Getty Images)Trailer of the WeekThe Bourne LegacyFeaturing an Inception-like score and a very beat up Jeremy Renner, The Bourne Legacy's first trailer premiered this past week. Legacy should be an interesting film. The writer/director Tony Gilroy decided to replace Jason Bourne with Aaron Cross (Renner), which is not how The Bourne Legacy novel was written. Gilroy did keep Bourne in the title, however. No doubt a way to continue the run of success of the franchise. Either way, the movie should be a taut action thriller like the previous three films, which starred Matt Damon. The trailer proves Renner is a legit action star and has the physical makeup to handle such a role. His performace in The Hurt Locker secured Renner a place in Hollywood, and The Bourne Legacy should make him a superstar.Red Carpet Photo of the WeekTebow and the Terminator

Watson gets her director, still needs a Beast

(Bauer Griffin)

  • The new adaptation of the classic Beauty and the Beast has its director. Guillermo Del Toro has joined the production, which already has its star in Emma Watson. Variety reports Del Toro was originally in line to produce but will helm the project from the director's chair as well. Watson is in final talks to secure the title role. No word yet on who will play the Beast, but if Del Toro's past work is any indication, the role will be a formidable one. He has a history of creating originally wonderful creatures, and a reimagining of Beast seems right up his alley.
  • Empire ran an exclusive interview with Hugh Grant this week where the actor discussed his (many) roles in the upcoming film Cloud Atlas. The film, based on David Mitchell's award-winning book of 2004, will take a shot at producing Mitchell's six interconnected stories which span centuries from the 1800s to a post-apocalyptic future. Three directors will shoot the script: Tom Tykwer, and Andy and Lana Wach! owski. Grant says he does a lot of "killing and raping" in the film and adds we may not recognize him as he wears "an awful lot of prosthetic makeup." The ambitious production features an all-star cast: Tom Hanks, Hugo Weaving, Halle Berry, Jim Broadbent, and Susan Sarandon, as well as Grant.
Blu Ray of the WeekTake Shelter

A stylized modern thriller, Take Shelter will be more appreciated in years to come as a film that was ahead of its time. Jeff Nichols arrived on the scene in 2007 with Shotgun Stories, a legitimate heart pounder set in rural Arkansas. Take Shelter is the director's second feature and, with it, he has cemented his reputation as a filmmaker to watch. Michael Shannon gives an Oscar-worthy performance as Curtis, a small-town Ohio family man who is slowly losing his mind, but seeks the truth within his insanity. Check out Zimbio's review here .

2012 Oscar PredictionsBAFTA winners, The Artist leads the race... still

(Bauer Griffin, Getty Images)

With the BAFTA winners announced this past weekend, The Artist has locked itself up as the film to beat on Oscar Sunday. The much-lauded silent film nearly swept the major awards, taking home the prizes for Best Picture, Director, and Actor among others. An upset could still loom, but the smart money is on Michel Hazanavicius and his art house breakthrough.

The real race is in the Best Actress category where heavyweights Meryl Streep and Viola Davis are battling it out. Who will win is completely up in the air at this point as both actresses have won major awards these past months. It's a shame these two are overshadowing what is probably the best performance of the year by man or woman in Rooney Mara's electric Lisbeth Salander incantation. The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo is almost certainly too edgy for the conservative Academy panel, unfortunately. Once again, the Oscars will focus their attention on the safe bets, not to take anything away from Streep or Davis.
