Emma Watson on 'Perks': 'I wanted to show people I can transform'
Watson stars in The Perks of Being a Wallflower as one of a group of teenagers dealing with the triumphs and traumas of adolescence.
In an interview with The AP, the actress said her latest role allowed her to mature as an actress.
"I hope what [Harry Potter fans] can see is that I am able to transform, that there are other sides of me that perhaps they haven't seen yet, and that they might allow me a little bit of room," Watson explained.
She continued: "I mean, just doing American really is different. People have said to me that they keep forgetting it's me when they see the movie, which for me is more than enough. That's a success in itself for me, really."
Watson added that The Perks of Being a Wallflower somewhat mirrored her own maturation.
"There are some parts of me that feel very old, and then there are other parts of me that are, like, I have a sense of my own arrested development," she said.
"There are some parts of me right now that are probably going through adolescence."
Watson recently revealed that she cried during the film's premiere at the Toronto Film Festival last week.
The Perks of Being a Wallflower opens on September 21 in the US and October 3 in the UK.
