'Harry Potter's Emma Watson: 'There's nowhere to hide with short hair'

Emma Watson has said that her make-up routine has become more "experimental" since she cut her hair last year.

The Harry Potter actress credited the pixie cut with helping her to be more adventurous when it comes to her make-up habits.

"I think it's made me more bold, there's no way to hide when you have short hair," Watson told Stylelist. "You really have to go for it."

She explained: "Because I think it's quite boyish, you can kind of take it a bit further the other way. Be a bit sexier because it's kind of not too much, so that was cool.

"I've definitely been more experimental with colour and just a bit bolder."

The 21-year-old, who started classes at Oxford earlier this month, went on to speak about her upcoming role in My Week with Marilyn, in which she plays a wardrobe assistant.

"Well I mean, I wasn't playing [Marilyn Monroe], I was playing a different part, but I think I was inspired by who she was as a person, which is someone who's like incredibly alive," Watson said.

"I mean, she - all of her photographs, all of her images, she's just so alive and in the moment and spontaneous," she added. "I mean, she had an awful amount of pain, but when she smiled, when she laughed, her whole face lit up. It came from a real place."
