Emma Watson: I impressed Lancôme
Emma Watson says Lancôme were “taken aback” by how involved she wanted to be after becoming their ambassador.
The actress is proud to have followed in the footsteps of stars such as Penélope Cruz, Kate Winslet and Julia Roberts by working with the beauty company. As well as being the face of the brand she also fronts campaigns for their fragrance Trésor Midnight Rose.
She decided to work with the company after realising there was no point hiding from her fame. She takes the role seriously, something which she believes surprised the company.
“I’d never do a celebrity endorsement. Lancôme was taken aback by how much input I wanted to have,” she told the November edition of UK magazine Elle. “But I would never just put my name on something. It’s more interesting to have a genuine involvement with a brand, rather than showing up on the day and looking pretty. Also, as much as I do love fashion, I’m an actress first and foremost. Lancôme represents great actresses and that appealed to me.”
Emma famously cut her hair after she finished shooting Harry Potter, as she’d been banned from doing so while portraying Hermione Granger in the franchise. She’s also become increasingly interested in fashion over the last few years, teaming up with Alberta Ferretti and People Tree for collections.
The 21-year-old enjoys being able to express herself and hopes to show other young women the value in that too.
“I do worry about the expectation to look a certain way. I find LA quite scary because of that – all those young people having plastic surgery. But the thing is, I don’t want to look like everyone else. I don’t have perfect teeth; I’m not stick thin. I want to be the person who looks great in her body and can say that she loves it and doesn’t want to change anything,” she enthused. “It’s ridiculous that that seems like such an unrealistic goal.
“Women are really hard on themselves and the media is really hard on us. Whenever I hear anyone say anything about another woman that’s negative about their image, I just jump on them.”
