Watson mistaken for 12-year-old child

Los Angeles, Jan 7 (IANS) British actress Emma Watson was stopped at the US immigration because officials thought she was a child.

They mistook Watson, 22, as a 12-year-old.

The actress was stopped at John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York, where she was questioned by officials at the passport control, who believed she was an unaccompanied minor.

Watson tweeted about incident and wrote: "Passport control: 'unaccompanied minor?' Me: 'sorry?' Passport control: 'Where is your guardian?' Me: 'I am 22! Never wearing back pack again."

"The really sad thing is that this is not the first time this has happened," she further posted.

Apparently Emma was mortified.

"It was very embarrassing but she managed to awkwardly laugh it off," people.com quoted a source as saying.

"The Americans are very serious about, who they let in and out of the country. If young kids are thought to be on their own, it poses a massive problem. Luckily, Emma managed to convince them how old she is," added the source.

Watson was returning to the US to continue her studies at Brown University in Rhode Island after taking time out to work on film projects.
